We’re less than two weeks away from our annual Family and Community Engagement Summit, featuring the State of the Schools Address on March 20 and March 21 at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High. We’re excited to announce that our keynote speaker will be Dr. Tommie Mabry, presenting “The First Step to Changing a Child’s Perspective is Understanding It.” Information about breakout sessions is now available. Lunch will be provided to attendees both days, and interpretation services will be provided for Spanish-speaking participants. Register to attend!
2026-27 school transfer deadline is March 13
The official 2026-27 transfer application period ends this Friday, March 13. Families who submit a request during this period will be eligible for an appeal if the request is denied. Results will be available via email and/or text within seven to 10 business days. Learn more.
Second round choice school application window open through March 13
The window for second round applications to choice schools with remaining seats will remain open through this Friday, March 13. Eligible applicants who qualify for magnet priority will be considered for available seats. Learn more about the application process on the Magnet Schools section of our site.
Our Spring Job Fair is this Saturday, March 14
Our Spring Job Fair will be held this Saturday, March 14 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Felton Grove High to recruit candidates for available positions across our district. Celebrate Gifted and Talented Education Awareness Week March 8-14
Governor Josh Stein proclaimed March 8-14 as Gifted and Talented Education Awareness Week. We're committed to identifying and supporting K-12 students with academic and intellectual gifts. We recognize students with advanced academic potential and provide differentiated instruction in core subjects, enrichment opportunities that extend learning, and accelerated pathways when appropriate, ensuring students are challenged and supported as they grow. Learn more about the SHARE Program
The SHARE (Stop Hunger and Restore Earth) Program collects unopened cafeteria food and makes it available for students who may need an extra snack during the day. A new video highlights how the program works and why it matters for students and the environment. The program continues to grow across our district. SHARE launched with eight elementary schools and has expanded several times. By the end of this school year, the program will serve 37 schools. Learn more.
Vote for the Rack Room Shoes national Teacher of the Year by March 27
Rack Room Shoes’ annual Teacher of the Year contest has officially opened voting to select five winners, who will receive a $10,000 Innovation Grant for their school and a $500 gift card to Rack Room Shoes. Our district has three nominees! These teachers have been nominated by parents, students, and colleagues for their ability to inspire students to achieve greatness. Students: Showcase creativity in Project Open Air health contest
Wake County Public Health invites our middle and high school students to participate in Project Open Air, a regional contest inviting students to use their creativity through art, video, music, and photography to inspire peers to live tobacco-free. Students can submit original work such as spoken word, short interview videos, photo essays, or digital art/PSAs sharing their perspectives on community health. Submissions are due March 31, and a Live Help Night will be held March 11 at 6 p.m. via Zoom for students, families, and educators to get project ideas and ask questions. Learn more.
Students: Enter Wake County Public Libraries annual Bookmark Contest by March 31
Wake County Public Libraries invites students of all ages to get creative in its annual Bookmark Contest. Entry forms are available at every library location and online. Submit designs in person by 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31. Winners receive printed copies of their bookmark, a poster of their design, and recognition at a celebratory reception. Winning designs will be shared across all 23 libraries during the 2026 Summer Reading Program. Learn more.
