Board of Education approves construction plan for Ligon Magnet Middle School renovation project
At its March 3 work session and meeting, the Board of Education heard details about construction options and community feedback regarding Ligon Magnet Middle School’s renovation. Board members then voted to approve Option 3 from the proposed plans. This plan includes construction of a new building on the current athletic field site. Students and staff will continue learning in the current building during construction, after which it will be demolished to create new athletic facilities. The work session discussion and final vote for the plan are available for viewing on the WCPSS Youtube channel.
Second Round Choice School application window now open
The window for Second Round applications to Choice Schools with remaining seats is now open through March 13. Eligible applicants who qualify for magnet priority will be considered for available seats. Learn more about the application process on the Magnet Schools section of our website.
Camille McDaniel of East Garner Magnet Middle named 2026 WCPSS School Social Worker of the Year
McDaniel’s recognition comes as we join districts nationwide in observing National School Social Work Week. “She is a true leader and advocate who exemplifies high ethical standards in her practice," says Courtney Apple, senior administrator for School Social Work. March is Arts in Our Schools Month, and we’re proud to celebrate the incredible creativity of our students and educators. The arts are recognized as a core subject in our district’s strategic plan. We believe music, visual arts, theatre, and dance are essential to a well-rounded education. Families can explore resources for middle and high school students with special needs on March 12
The next Transition and Community Agency Fair will be held March 12 at Felton Grove High in Apex from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will showcase local organizations, provide opportunities to connect with agency representatives, and offer informative sessions on guardianship and adult services.
